It's been a "little" while since I posted on The Beach House blog; and since the store is celebrating six years, I thought this was the perfect time to get back to it, tell you about the beach house beginnings and a sale to celebrate our anniversary!
I think my story is the same as a lot of women. I worked for 19 years at one of the big banks. A few years after having my son, I went part-time and had terrific hours so I could spend time with him. Then the lay offs began. In the meantime, we have bought a mobile home/trailer down the Delaware beaches. Let's just say my "beach house" was not nearly as quaint as the vintage Airstream trailers - he, he. The first thing to go was the "No Trespassing" sign the previous owners had nailed to one of the trees in the front yard, then followed up with a lot of scrubbing and a lot of white paint. But that's a story (and pictures) for another time. So, I was in search of beach decor for my "beach house" but couldn't find anything I liked. I wanted beach decor with a vintage or cottage feel.
Then the idea to open an online store. It was now or never and it seemed to be the right time. After all, I was out of a job, I'd have the flexibility to spend time with my son and I really enjoyed decorating a home. So there you have it J. There's been challenges; some I've really enjoyed; but all rewarding even if I didn't see it at the time. At the risk of getting too sentimental, the best part has been sharing the love of all things beachy with all of you. Thank you (from the bottom of my flip flops) for your business and your likes. And now, Part I of our anniversary celebration:
*Coupon may not be applied to previous purchases or combined with any other promotion. Excludes Designer Table Lamps and The Beach House LLC gift certificates.
Part II is coming to facebook...and enjoy shopping!

Vintage Sack Pillows and Beach House Signs
I love vintage accents and inspirational quotes. Combine the two with a coastal twist, along with a simple style that can be either casual or elegant and I'm really hooked! I thought the vintage inspired sack pillows and box signs added to the store last week were beautifully simple in design and words.
The first pillow pictured doesn't exactly have a "beachy" quote; but it reminded me of some favorite beach memories like my first family vacation to the beach as a little girl to Wildwood, NJ. Seeing the ocean for the first time and the boardwalk. It also brought to mind a more recent beach first...
Tubing! The picture is a little blurry. Probably from a combination of the boat (and me) going back and forth and my son who was taking the picture and having a good laugh :)! What fun! Find the entire collection of Vintage Linen Sack Pillows at: http://www.thebeachhousestore.com/visapi.html.
You can just feel the sand and surf with these box signs made of wood with a weathered blue finish. Versatile too! Because the depth of the signs are 1.75", they can either hang on a wall or sit on a shelf. Find the beach box signs at: http://www.thebeachhousestore.com/woodsigns.html.
More sack pillows and box signs to come in the following weeks. Have a terrific weekend!

Happy Friday and My Coastal Pictures
A lot of the pictures I take are not very good. Thank goodness for digital cameras! But once in a while, I take a photo that I really like. One that puts a smile on my face or makes me say, "Wow". Here are a few of my coastal favorites:
Love lighthouses. A picture of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on the Outer Banks.
One of our beach house dogs playing in the sand and being a good sport for my then 10 year old.
One of my best photos and the easiest to take! This was taken in Puerto Vallarta sitting on a lounge chair. If you look closely, you can see a sailboat on the horizon. I guess sometimes the best pictures are not well planned!
And to keep the smiling going, we're shifting our Salty Dog Friday to Happy Friday! After all, why limit it when there are so many things about the sand and sea that make us smile?! So, on Happy Fridays, post on our Facebook page what makes you smile about the beach for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate from The Beach House LLC. It could be salty dogs (one of our personal favorites), flip flops, salt water taffy, anything beachy that makes you smile! Happy Friday everyone!

Salty Dog Fridays
We love dogs at The Beach House and we love Fridays! Something about the end of the work week that makes me a little more lighthearted and puts a spring in my step. Fridays are fun and so are dogs! We'd like to add to the fun and share some smiles with you by introducing our Salty Dog Fridays! Post a picture on our Facebook page of your salty dog for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to The Beach House LLC. One winner will be picked at random every Friday!
Here's a picture of our beach house pooches Jessie and Brady enjoying the sand and surf. Happy Friday everyone; and we hope it makes you smile!

Coastal Bedding Style
We're into the second week of our Sandman Sale at The Beach House LLC! Sort of a funny coincidence with the sale. I wanted to come up with a beachy term for the bedding sale. "Sandman" worked perfectly. A couple of days after naming our bedding sales event, I saw the Kia Super Bowl commercial with Mr. Sandman and the band Motley Crue. A fluke in a couple of ways. I had just named our bedding event the Sandman Sale, the mythical "bring me a dream" character and the song were in the commercial, and...at the risk of revealing my age, my favorite hair metal band in the 80's was Motley Crue. Wow - really funny and odd sometimes how things connect. Beach style bedding, Sandman, Motley Crue. Who would have thought???
Anyway, back to our Sandman Sale, be sure to visit our Events page on Facebook for your free shipping code good for the month of February on our Beach House and Tropical Surf Bedding Sets. Be sure to "Like" us while you're there to find out about all our sales Events! Some of the coastal style bedding you'll find:
Beach and coastal themed bedding in colors that remind you of the sand and sea.
Nautical themed bedding in traditional red, white and blue.
Tropical themed bedding in vibrant shades of aqua blue, coral, lime green, pink and yellow.
Have a terrific weekend everyone and sweet dreams or rather..."Kickstart My Heart"!

Sea-Inspired Decor
We're in September's issue of Coastal Living! "Turn any tabletop into a display for a collection of beach treasures by grouping like objects together and mixing with glass containers of varying heights. For decorative sea-inspired pieces, visit thebeachhousestore.com."
The seashells and coral pictured with the clear glass containers give it a simple but elegant coastal look. We love the clear glass lamp included with the collection of seashells and coral! (It gives us a new item to shop for. We'll let you know once we've got it added to the store!) For a different lighting look, use a hurricane lamp with pillar candle. Find interesting glass containers like beverage glasses, jars and vases at your local craft store, flea market or thrift shop. You'll find our collection of sea-inspired decorative pieces under our Sea Glass/Sea Life/Seashell Decor section at: www.thebeachhousestore.com/fishnetsealife.html. It includes resin coral, starfish and seashell along with decorative pieces made from sea glass and seashells.
Mix them in with your own collection of beachcombing treasures and glass containers to create a beautiful display.
